Hi
I have joined the HearSat mailing list primarily to learn how to build the
necessary kit to use Es-hail-2. I have a 90cm offset dish left over from
the time when I experimented with satellite TV together with a polar mount.
I am intending to have a go at building a dual band patch antenna which
looks relatively straight forward apart from the testing and adjustment.
Generally I am looking for “getting started” advice so that I can decide
what equipment I need.

David,
I suggest you take a look at the BATC Wiki. For receiving a PLL LNB is
better than a DRO type, and likely essential for SSB reception. Folk have
locked the LNB to a GPSDO to eliminate drift and provide accurate
calibration. I've received SSB with a PLL LNB and a "37 cm camping
antenna", so 90 cm should be no problem. I used the pass-through output of
a receiver (TBS5925) fed to an Airspy running on ~700 MHz, but you could use
the Web receiver to start with.
I've not done anything with transmission, but likely I would try to run an
SDR (Lime, Pluto etc.) and amplify it up.
